Vector Analysis

1. What reading path has been created by vectors in this advertisement?

The reading path in this advertisement starts from the motorbike which is the main focus as it stands out. Your eyes then begin to notice the writing about the various slogans. The slogans stand out because they have been printed in a white colour.

2. Why do our eyes follow this path?

Our eyes follow this path because the bike and the figure immediately stand out because it is a completely different colour as opposed to the background orange. And then because the writing is white, your eyes begin to notice it. This has been produced in the ad because it helps the viewer understand the purpose of the ad.

Colour Analysis

1. What meaning has been attatched to this product?

This ad makes strong use of the colour “orange”. Orange in this case is used to imply that the bike is friendly to ride for all people. The black jacket that is worn by the rider makes the bike sttand out amongst the background. The orange background also gives this advertisement a sense of life.

2. Why do you think that the advertiser has used the colours in the following advertisement?

I believe that YAMAHA has used the colour orange in the ad to give it a sense of reality and unrealness. Also it’s used to show that the bike is easy going despite it being said: defy gravity etc.

3. How does this aid the appeal of the product?

This aids the appeal of the product as it tells us viewers that you can have a lot of freedom and  control of the bike but at the same time it informs them that it is still a friendly ride.

Compositional Analysis

Top: The Ideal

1. What does the product promise us?

The product promises all motorists that this new motor bike gives you freedom and control and it also is supposed to be beyond this world, from what I can gain from the ad. It also tells us to have some fun and ignore rules.

2. Is there status or glamour appeal?

The slogan tells you that the new motor bike is along the lines of having all possibilities. The ad also uses bright colours such as the orange to entice the viewer into feeling more lenient into buying the product.

Bottom: The Real

1. What is the advertisement selling?

This advertisement by Yamaha is designed to advertise and persuade or convince the viewer into buying the brand new Gladiator Motor Bike.

2. What factual information is provided about the product?

The information we can gain from the text at the bottom of the ad is that it is given the name of Gladiator and that the slogan is: “Life Rocks”

Left: The Given Ideology

1. What belief is expressed about product and society?

The belief that the product is designed to express in society is that this new bike has no limitations in terms of freedom and stability control.

2. What attitude is given about the product?

In my opinion the attitude that I feel is given towards the motorbike is a real rockstar, rule breaker, don’t care attitude. By showing the slogans we see that the bike has great capabilities and that it is there to be used on the road.

1. List two problems that could occur from students selecting their own groups.

Choosing their own friends and throughout the project, they get distracted and do not complete the project or to a professional standard.

End up with people who don’t do any work and in the end you end up completing the entire project.

2. Which type of student will be selected first?

The student which will be selected first in a group is, the smartest person in the class as people will go for the brainy people to do all the work.

3. Why do you think that they were selected first?

The brainy people will be selected first because others want them to get them good marks and do all the work.

4. Which type of student would be selected last?

Not quite sure on this one. Only guess is, the one who is not very brainy

5. What beneficial characteristics can you offer to your group?

Some of the things I can offer to my group are:

Good knowledge of Photoshop/Indesign etc.

How to research and write effectively

ICT skills such as Final Cut Pro, iMovie

Open Theory

An Open universe is a universe which will continue to expand. If a Universe is “open”, then it will expand until all of eternity. We also see the fact that the C-R theory stops the universe from being open or expanding. If the universe has a mass which has enough to close off space, then the universe is basically located within a huge Black-hole. Basically this means that the universe will be stopped from expanding forever.

Investigate other theories of the origin of the universe or suggest your own.

The origin of the universe is a topic which is debated by many different groups. In religions, their is a theory by both theists and atheists. Theists have a belief that the universe began from an intelligent designer. In the 1900’s the Atheists believed that the universe was “eternal.” This opinion was later proven incorrect in the 20th Century such as Einstein’s and Hubble’s theories.

Homework 26th May

1 State how old the universe is thought to be

The universe is thought to be approximately 14 billion years ago.

2. Identify the time when the young universe suddenly inflated.

The time that the universe suddenly inflated was within a fraction of a second when the universe began to expand fairly slowly

3. Matter and antimatter didn’t totally destroy each other after the big bang. Explain why it is lucky that this didn’t occur.

4. Identify what particles grouped into threes to form protons and neutrons.

Particles called quarks grouped together to form protons and neutrons.

5.  a) State the proportion of hydrogen in the universe.

     b) Explain why hydrogen is the most common element

Hydrogen is the most common element because it is a substance which is found in almost everything in the universe.

6. Describe what is in a hydrogen nucleus

In a hydrogen nucleus you can find 2 hydrogen atoms and one oxygen atom

7. Explain why the early universe was opaque.

The early universe was opaque because it contained energy in the form of radiation

8. Describe the effect on the ‘fog’ of the continuing expansion of the universe.

The continuing expansion of the universe caused more radiation.

9. Penzias and Wilson detected evidence for the Big Bang. Clarify the evidence they collected.

Penzias and Wilson produced an image of the universe when it was 300 000 years old. They collected this via the COBE satellite.

10. State what the acronym COBE stands for.

COBE stands for (Cosmic Background Explorer)

Timeline of the Bing Bang

Big Bang: 10,-6 seconds

This is when the universe was created. It all began with the Big Bang, which was a cataclysm. From this the Universe was formed. At this time the universe was very hot and dense. Soon after it began to cool down and also it started to expand.

Universe begins to shape

After 1 millionth of a second, the universe continues to expand however it becomes less dense and it cools down. Some things which we would know, began to appear. Things such as gravity.

Galaxies begin to form soon after. The universe at this stage did not have an even distribution of energy particles. This gave the forces an opportunity to start collecting matter.

Gather information about:

a) Hubble’s involvement in Space Research

Hubble was a key figure in the 20th Century. Edwin Hubble was one of the greatest every astronomers in the world. It was Hubble who came up with the theory that the galaxy in which we live in (The Milky Way) was not the only galaxy which existed in the universe. He is named after one of the famous telescopes called the “Hubble Space Telescope.” By the end of the 1920’s Hubble had created a system for classifying galaxies. Hubble has made a discovery of approximately 46 kinds of galaxies in the universe. Without the knowledge and the brains of Edwin Hubble, our world would not have known some of the many wonders in the universe.

b) What the space telescope does.

The Hubble Space Telescope was designed to provide clear views of the galaxy.

c) Where it is

The Telescope is located in orbit around the earth.

d) What Hubble’s constant is
