Informed Conscience

Developing an Informed Conscience Worksheet

The first place to start developing an informed conscience is with the life, teaching and deeds of Jesus Christ. We need to know what he stood for and what he taught so that we can consider this in making our own decisions. Read the following bible passages and identify the moral virtues that Jesus is trying to convey.

Passage Virtue
John 8:2 – 11 Forgiveness
Mark 14: 34 -36 Generosity

Matthew 5: 39 – 44 Peacemaking
Matthew 5: 38 – 41 Poverty

1. What does being in a relationship with God require me to do?

Somethings which one must do to be in a relatonship with God are:

Respect god how he is not some mean guy and acknowledge his presence in the world

Pray. Prayer is the only way in which we can communicate with God and talk to him, ask for forgiveness or to praise him.

Attend church. Being there at church at least once a week gives us the opportunity to come and be prepared to worship him and be in his presence.

2. What does loving my neighour as myself require me to do?

Loving your neighbour as yourself requires you to do the following:

Open-Minded: If you are open-minded to all people, then people will be open-minded to you. If you really care about them then they will care about you.

Respect: Respect is the only way to gain respect from others. For example, if you have a friend from work who has a different Religion, then you respect his and then you will become closer.

1. There are allways two sides to a conscience . What would Rogers conscience be telling him?

Rogers conscience would be telling him these two cases:

Help the poor kid: Part of Roger does want to save this kid. This “positive conscience would be telling him who cares about your clothes, you need to save someone who does not have the same talents/skills as you do, a person who does not have everything that you do. This conscience woulf be also screaming out to Roger that he needs to save this teenager and that it would do no harm to him at all.

Ignore him, who cares: This view of Roger’s conscience is a lazy and is not open-minded. This “negative” view is self-centered on Rogers and that he comes first. This conscience is asking him why should he hurt/wet himself trying to help someone who is too careless. This view is very much like Satan telling us not to do the right thing and trying to influence our conscience.

An example of Jesus’s teaching is when

Individual Task 4

1. Give a brief description of who the Dalai Lama is ? (include resources to support)

The Dalai Lama is the leader of the Tibetan community of Buddhists all over the world. The current Dalai Lama is Tenzin Gyatso. The Dalai Lama is a very important person in the eyes of the Buddhists. Tibetans acknowledge the Dalai Lama as being the “living connection of the Bodhisattava of compassion.”

2. Evaluate how the actions of the Dalai Lama in regard to the riots in Tibet would be regarded as exemplary moral integrity.

The Dalai Lama’s decision to stand down is a courageous yet risky decision to make. If the Dalai Lama was to stand down then it could possibly ease down the riots and show the Tibetan people the consequences. This is also because the Dalai Lama is a very important person in their lives and it would be hard to find a replacement for a leader such as Tenzin Gyatso. However if he were to resign as well the riots could possibly continue out of anger that he had quit and his life may have been in danger too. But overall I strongly believe that to resign as Dalai Lama would be a better option to take as it would have helped the community and may have eased down the riots.

Watch the following video.

1. Describe the term ‘Interactive TV’.

Interactive TV is a new tool through development which is connected to the Internet through phone lines. In interactive TV viewers can download videos which can be viewed on their computer or TV for playback. The point of Interactive TV is to sway people into using new tools and to download etc, instead of watching the TV.

2. Explain the reasons why Interactive TV is now called TV 2.0?

Interactive Tv is now referred to as TV 2.0 because it is next after the original TV. Also with most updates/software the next in a series has 1.5 etc.

3. Outline the positives and the negatives of implementing interactive TV.

The positives of using interactive TV are:

To get more people using their TV-This is a feature which many try to do as they hope to get people using their TV more often and with Interactive TV they will use it more often.

Engage viewers etc.

The negatives though are:

Obesity from using it too much

Harder for elders to use (too much controls etc.)

4. Apple recently released Apple TV – Take 2. Describe the reasons why it needed to be changed.

In Apple TV 1.0 many hacks were able to get through Apple TV. Also in Apple TV 1.0 it was not possible to download content without having a computer. Apple TV Take 2 included new features such as having the ability to rent/purchase movies from the iTunes Store from home it also include the ability for a computer not required to be on to view data.

Individual Task 3 – Ethical Principles

1. Define the term ‘Moral Integrity’.

Moral Integrity means to respond and to take action as to what you believe to be the right thing to do in the situation

2. Describe why Maximillian Kolbe is regarded as a Christian of exemplary moral integrity.

Maximillian Kolbe is regarded as being a Christian of exemplary moral integrity is the fact that he chose to die for someone else. He chose to die just as Jesus did for us. Maximillian saw how one man had a wife and children to live for and made sure that man had life.

3. Outline Maximillian’s ethical actions/principles that he demonstrated on Auschwitz.

When Maximillian chose to go forward and die in the other mans place he showed us how one act of kindness can make a big difference.

He also shows us how you don’t have to die on a cross just as long as your dying for someone else and doing it in Christ’s name.

4. Evaluate whether you think he made the right decision and provide research to support your answer i.e Catholic Teachings.

I believe that Maximillian’s decision to choose to die for another man was the right decision to make. Maximillian saw how their were others who deserved to live and said for them to take him instead. Maximillian’s actions are supported by the Bible. In the gospel of Matthew (can’t remember of find the verse) Jesus says that whoever will die on the cross for my sake will enjoy eternal life with me. This is one of the reasons why Maximillian would have chosen to concede to the Nazi’s. Also Maximillian saw how that if this other man died, he would leave his wife a widow and children without a father. This shows how Maximillian was very Open-Minded and caring for others around him as it says in Mark 12: 31 to love your neighbour as you love yourself.

1. Explain the purpose of using ‘youtube’ as a source of digital media advertising.

The idea behind posting videos on youtube to advertise digitally is so that people can see your company/product without you having to pay for that ad to appear on television. And also as the internet is used quite as much as often as the T.V people surf for videos on youtube and can end up linked to the advertisement.

2. Discuss how media collaborative sites such as youtube, myspace, bebo have change the current boundaries of media such as news.

Media collaborative sites over the past few years have initiated new ways to make their sites more popular. Sites use aspects such as news and weather so that you don’t need to go to any other site and that everything that you would want is on there.

3. Provide a link to an advertising commercial on youtube.

An advertisement for VB Beer. However while it is an ad it was not posted on youtube for advertising, just for personal interest

With reference to the image below and answer the following questions:Digital Media
1.) Define the term ‘digital media’.
Digital media refers to forms of media e.g. newspaper, television etc. which is posted online.
2.) How has digital media evolved over the last 5-10 years?
Digital media has evolved over the past decade by its use of technology and it’s large developments. Digital media has been posted online and is available for  download. Examples include podcasts and recordings of radio etc.

3.) Discuss the reasons why digital newspapers are extremely popular? Digital newspapers are very popular for the following reasons:Availability without spending all the time:

This is a big bonus for many families who are struggling financially. It makes it easier for them to find out the news for the day without spending around $1 each day where they can spend it on something which will help them such as food etc.

No damage:

With all the details online it prevents any chance of your coffee spilling on the paper or accidental tears on light paper.

Instant access:

With all the news you would need/want to know for the day it is a lot easier at the touch of a button. This gives you simple and instant access. This also makes sure you don’t spend 10 minutes trying to find the Sport section etc, with every category accessible in an instant.

Opinion:

Some newspaper sites online give people the chance to write what they think of the story or situation. People can post also from their general knowledge what they know of the story.
