What key themes do you need to include in your three minutes script from the play, your group has chosen to study.

Our group needs to include the following in our three to five minute play:

  • Modernised Script: Our play needs to contain modern themes however at the same time we must not go to far but it needs to have themes which also reflects our society in the 21st Century to the current date.
  • Tone and voice: We need to have a great deal of enthusiasm in what we are saying in the script and not just reading. Because it is a performance it needs to be dramatic and must contain a great deal of tone in our voices.
  • Realisticness: The play needs to sound like something which can be performed and something which does make sense.

I have discovered tha Hamlet is a story which is about the tragedy of how fathers have ended up murded. It talks about how the ghost of the deceased king comes back to tell Hamlet of how he must murder the person who took his throne and stole his wife. He asks Hamlet to avenge him and murder Claudius who is the current king of Denmark.

1. Has your image of Jesus changed during the project? Why or Why not?

No it has not. This is because before the project I already had a clear image as to what Jesus looked like

2. What do you feel is the best way to portray an image of Jesus and why?

In my opinion the way that Jesus should be portrayed is dependant on the character of a person. I believe that it depends on ones age group:

Child 2-9 (Image) – At this stage children need to know about Jesus and are still very young and would not have a great understanding of the bible and would most probably not understand it. At this age I believe that it would be appropriate to show children images and picture books of Jesus and other stories of the bible. This is because it is easier for them to take in a picture than words.

Child 10-adulthood (Music, Bible) – By this time kids will have a greater interest into music and Christian music promotes them to listen to God’s word. I for one believe this, as I myself took upon this method and am part of our church band and have grown to become closer to God through music. Artists such as Hillsong, Matt Redman and Julie Jacobs inspire youths to become closer to God through praise in music. Also at this stage it is time for the bible to be taught to them so that they can learn about God’s word. Also at this stage they would have common reading skills. This makes it appropriate to introduce it

3. What have you enjoyed about the project so far and what would you do differently.

I have enjoyed how we get to talk about our personal religious beliefs and open up about our beliefs.

Individual Task 2

Matthew 19: 18-28

John 12: 20-35

1. Describe in your own words, the message of each Bible Passage.

Matthew 19: 18-28

This bible passage talks about how it is no use obeyeing God’s holy law when you would not follow God when he comes knocking on your door. In this passage, the man has obeyed all of God’s law but however when Jesus tells him to do something that he doesnt want to do, he declines and walks away from god. In other words this passage tells us that we must be ready to follow God’s call when he asks us to do something no matter what it may be.

John 12:20-35

This passage tells us that the people who serve and follow Jesus, that we will be honoured by God and be seated in heaven and rise as Jesus Christ did.

2. How is Jesus portrayed in the following passages.

In the first passage Jesus is clearly represented as a teacher with a wealth of knowledge of the bible and God’s word. He is seeked by many for questions, in this case on what a person must do, in order to reach heaven. At this time he speaks of many analogies and similar terms.  He also gives people advice as to what God expects to do. In the last passage it is very similar, Jesus is portrayed as merely a teacher in God’s law, at this time he is only a teacher of the bible. While he is a teacher at this stage, his real identity as Jesus the messiah and Son of Man is clear while others in the bible see him as a teacher.

3. Discuss your personal response to the messages portrayed by the parables.

I believe, after reading the Bible passages under the central point, that Jesus was the teacher and mentor at that time. In the time that the passages highlight, Jesus is a teacher to all about God’s word. After his baptism, he begins to change into the servant that God wants him to be. He heals, teaches and loves. While his true love has yet not been shown in the two passages, he still possesses the ability to explain the bible to the believers.

4. From the portrayel, draw your own image of Jesus in one of the parables.

Individual Task 1 – Renaissance Art

1. List the title of the Image.

The title of this artwork is the Pieta.

2. Name the artist where possible.

This work is by the famous Renaissance artist: Michellangelo.

3. Identify features of the artwork significant to the period.

Some features which this artwork relates to in the Renaissance Period are:

It shows great detail into the sorrow that Mary faced wen she saw the dead body of Jesus her son.

It helped people of that time understand what the scene in the bible would look like as people were curious into the way things were highlighted.

People wanted to know what the scene was in real life with an insight into what it looked like.

4. Discuss your personal response to the message, potrayed by this artwork.

I believe that this image shows us all the amount of love that our parents, particularly our mothers have for us and the compassion that they have for us. It also tells us that they care for us and we mean the world to them. This relates to the artwork as it shows the love that Mary had for Jesus. This artwork also gets us to look at the sorrow and express the emotions that Mary had for Jesus as she held his dead corpse.

1. What form of medium(music, art or literature) allows you to best connect with Jesus and why?

The medium which allows me to become closer to Jesus is through music. As I am part of the church band I get to play songs of worship and praise and I enjoy the praise through music that I play. Also it is a lot easier to express it through music as you open up your inner feelings through it.

2. Why has Jesus been portrayed in so many different ways throughout history.

Jesus has been portrayed in many ways because:

People wanted to imagine a scene with Jesus and wanted to know what he looked like

To replicate events that happened in his life

Construct images of what the Bible said to make it easier for others.

3. How is Jesus protrayed at Parramatta Marist.

At Marist, Jesus is shown on a crucifix in every classroom. He is also shown in some paintings in few rooms in the school.

4. What artistic time period do you think represents your image of Jesus and why?

The period which I believe represents Jesus the best is the Renaissance. This period shows a great deal of realism in the artworks. It also shows and gives us accurate images of what Jesus may have looked like.

5. Identify one image that appeals to you. What do you like about the representation.

An image which greatly appeals to me is Pieta by Michellangelo. I like how the artist has shown the sorrow and saddness on Mary’s face which shows a great deal of emotion on the scene. It also makes it very dramatic and the emotions powerful.

6. What factors currently shape your image of Jesus and why?

The factors which shape my image of Jesus are:

Certain clips of movies which show Jesus teaching or his crucifixion.

Images and paintings such as the ones in school

1. What words and/or images come into your mind when you hear the word Jesus?

No words come into my mind when I hear the word Jesus except for his name. If i hear his name though, I begin to get images of Jesus as a sheppard I also see a picture of him looking down from heaven and a glow surrounding him.

2. Why might it be important for young people to identify an image of Jesus.

It is important that young people understand what Jesus represents in case they recieve a vision from him asking them to do something. It is important that we are able to determine an image of Jesus so that we know when he is calling us.

3. Where in life do you most associate with images of Jesus.

In life I mainly see images of Jesus when I pray in church, when I bow my head I begin to feel the presence of him.

Vector Analysis

1. What reading path has been created by vectors in this advertisement?

The reading path in this advertisement starts from the motorbike which is the main focus as it stands out. Your eyes then begin to notice the writing about the various slogans. The slogans stand out because they have been printed in a white colour.

2. Why do our eyes follow this path?

Our eyes follow this path because the bike and the figure immediately stand out because it is a completely different colour as opposed to the background orange. And then because the writing is white, your eyes begin to notice it. This has been produced in the ad because it helps the viewer understand the purpose of the ad.

Colour Analysis

1. What meaning has been attatched to this product?

This ad makes strong use of the colour “orange”. Orange in this case is used to imply that the bike is friendly to ride for all people. The black jacket that is worn by the rider makes the bike sttand out amongst the background. The orange background also gives this advertisement a sense of life.

2. Why do you think that the advertiser has used the colours in the following advertisement?

I believe that YAMAHA has used the colour orange in the ad to give it a sense of reality and unrealness. Also it’s used to show that the bike is easy going despite it being said: defy gravity etc.

3. How does this aid the appeal of the product?

This aids the appeal of the product as it tells us viewers that you can have a lot of freedom and  control of the bike but at the same time it informs them that it is still a friendly ride.
