 1. Describe the Australian Governement’s Net Alert program.

The Australian Government’s Net Alert program aims to make a safe online environment for children and families on the internet. 

2. Discuss the reasons why they have implemented such a program.

 They have implemented this program so that children can be protected from illegal and offensive sites while on the internet.

Informational Value: The content in the text is shown as ideal and real. It is placed in certain areas that the author has deliberately placed so that the reader will look at each bit of writing and then look at the pictures around it. e.g the first section says: “Still more of them came”. Then it shows the images around it to give a sense of relating to the text. In this case the text says according to a personal opinion that the Rabbits are just too strong and superior.

Salience: The most noticeable section of the text is the white colour as it stands out among the sepia background. This is used so it grabs the viewers attention and directs he/she to the informational value.

Frame: The only frame on my selected page is around the text that says: “Sometimes we had fights”. This is enclosed by the tear marks from the picture.

In the message the informational value from the point of view of the natives tells us that the Rabbits are powerful and strong and are the superior race. It also shows to us that after fighting back the Natives are no match for them and have given up. The salience makes the idea of the Rabbits being superior stronger because throughout the book the concepts the author wants you to remember are placed in a colour that sticks out e.g a light blue against a black shadow.

Demand: On my selected page their is no figure gazing at the viewer.

Offer: Every character on my selected page is looking at the viewer as in the setting they are all at war.

Social Distance: The distance between the viewers and the characters are at a medium length away. The image however that depicts the Rabbits all standing in a straight line goes from very close to very far as the image is on a slight tilt.

Angle: The angle for most of the images are frontal as they all show/depict an action or scene taking place. The image that shows the Rabbits in a straight line is horizontal as they are all shown on the angle and it is a still panned image.

Modality: On the selcted page the text is in a white font colour which stands out a lot amongst the sepia background. It is very illuminated and real. The background is also very detailed and specific.

These techniques bring across the message of the book: “Might=Right”, in the following ways. Firstly the social distance shows the many Rabbits in a straight line preparing for attack and also shows how the natives are out numbered by a huge amount. The second technique is Modality which higlights the idea of the Rabbits being powerful using an illuminated text and the content in the text itself shows how they are no chance. Also the sepia background also introduces an idea to us that to the natives it was a hard time.

What is the message on my page in the Rabbits?

The message on my page of The Rabbits is that the higher class society with more technology will come on top and it is basically saying that technology out runs old fashioned ways.

Analyse Representational Meanings.

Reading Path: On my page on the rabbits the Reading Path goes all around the page as it stands out among the sepia and your eye travels from sentence to sentence and as you look from each sentence your eye floats around each picture.

Vector: The vector in this page shows a white newspaper like tear which grabs your attention to each picture and also the writing near each one gets you to look at each picture and at the same time understand the text.

Symbol: The symbols on this page are 1 the native animals symbolising the Aboriginals and the Rabbits being the British as they spread about and colonise. Also symbolised is a war going on which goes back to when Aboriginals fought back. Also the Rabbits are shown with explosives and guns showing that they are a higher class and are more advanced than the natives.

Motifs: In the page an idea that is repeated a lot is when you see the many pictures which depict war you look at each one you get the same idea because they all share the same concept. An example of this is the Rabbits motto: Might=Right which shows that they are the dominant race

In this page many different techniques are used. These techniques do bring out the message of the book very much. The message that I believe is in The Rabbits is that Might=Right. This also happens to be the Rabbits motto. I say this because the British took the land by force and by what they believe in is right. It also points out that by being mighty that you will reach your objective. Reading path brings out this message as it directs you to the motto of The rabbits which says Might=Right. The vectors in the book show each picture and also the dominance that The Rabbits have in the story how they are the higher class in society. Another technique which reflects the message are the symbols as they symbolise the Rabbits as the British which are shown as large and important. Also they are shown to be like giants and dominant giving them ultimate supremacy. Another symbol is the Rabbits flag, this flag shows arrows going in various directions. From a distance it looks somewhat like the British flag but the meaning of the flag is that they colonise and spread around the land. Another is motifs which in this repeats the pictures of the Rabbits standing up tall so we get the idea that they are rulers etc. Als0 the vectors go around some pictures on the double page spread and lead to a new image and they are separated by the vector. They also show a cause and effect on one page such as the British introducing new animals and new food. Then a vector separates an image which says: “but some of the food made us sick and some of the animals scared us”. This again highlights the message of how the Rabbits way of living is superior and they are mightier.

1. Read “The Rabbits” and identify its message. The story in this book is about how the Rabbits came to colonise the land just as the British did. The book has a huge similarity with the Aboriginals and the British. It also follows certain stories that occured. The main message according to what I believe is in the stroy is that Might=Right which is also the Rabbits motto. 2. Make a list of some visual techniques that you think help create -these meanings. On my pages the colour technique used is sepia. Sepia in the context relates to war and old times. It also depicts pain and suffering. Also on the pages the pictures are presented like strips of pictures ripped from a newspaper etc.  Also the font colour is white which stands out against the sepia and black background. 3. Discuss what you think colours represent in this book.  In this book it starts with happy colours such as on the first page which shows a peaceful and calm atmosphere showing the colours of the land and no sign of darkeness. On the second page the Rabbits are depicted with black over the land e.g the tracks from the carriage are black over the golden earth. They too are also shown in black symbolising death or in this case an unknown threat. As we move on into the book the rabbits are shown colonising the land and setting up buildings and their plans for the land. These are shown with bright colours making it plain to the audience that they believe that what they are doing is setting up a bright future. On the next page it shows new animals and food in bright and happy colours. This gives the audience a sense of thinking that they are actually doing the right thing however when the readers eye catches onto the next image he/she would get the thought of uneasiness. This image shows how the animals scare them and the food makes them sick this would tell the audience that the Rabbits aren’t so good after all. This reminds me of how Captain Arthur Phillip offered blankets to the Aboriginals but it made them sick. Also the images are shown in ugly shades of brown. On the next page we see a change of the land with the Rabbits setting up lights and their own buildings showing a change of development. The next page is shown in sepia showing possibly war and fights. For the last few pages in the book almost everything in the book is shown in black symbol. At the end the land is shown in dark browns and blacks making a huge change in the once peaceful land.

My contribution to the group is a majority of work on our preamble and the cover letter

I can also motivate the boys and help them with their work because my IT skills are good.

2. Where do you find your strengths and weaknesses are?

My strengths are in IT as I can make documents have good presentation etc.

Youtube – Youtube is very popular for its videos and for downloading them and presenting

them. It is misused often when inappropriate videos are posted and when unwanted comments

are posted on other videos .

1. Discuss the major design problems.

A design problem with this slide would be that the strips of grey in the

background takes your focus away from the writing. Another factor

would be that the writing is a bit shiny and has a bit of extra light.

This slide’s writing in the key is very miniscule and cramped

making it hard to see each colour and country. Another part

is the bit of writing underneath the main title. This is impossible

to read regardless of its importance.

This slide here has issues with its choice of colour. The background

colour coincides with the text and also for the context it does

not state what will eat your soul, heart etc.

Text-Text is basically writing tools in letters e.g microsoft word and writing.

Hypertext-Hypertext is text which will transpor you to another domain/website

they are also known as hyperlinks. An example is this website

Audio-This is basically the sound or what you here. It could be a

radio recording or a music track in a powerpoint etc.

Images-These are pictures of important things which can provide information

which can not be used in text. It can be used to show proof or evidence.

This picture of the eels Jersey could be used on a blog if one was writing about

a new jersey to show evidence. It can also be used to point out things in the past etc.

Animations-Animations are pictures with motion. They can be also thought of as short

movies. Animations are also not an effective source in presentations as they distract the

audience from the speaker. An example of an animation is this one of the Cross:

Videos – Videos are films/movies which are 24 pictures per a second.

Like pictures videos can be used to produce evidence and show visual

to text. Videos can also be used to make decisions such as the Video

Referee and the Third Umpire. This here is a video of Jarryd Hayne

scoring his debut try for N.S.W on halftime.

2. Writing, small (20 preferable)

3. Information too long, summarising notes and then speaking and expanding is better.
