1. Which countries have banned the Internet?

The countries which have banned the internet are:

As many people would know, the internet has become a natural part of our world. People access it all the time in different corners of the earth. However while the internet is very useful their are some countries which have placed bans on it. These countries are: Belarus, Burma, Cuba, Iran, Iraq, Lybia, Saudi Arabia, North Korea, Sierra Leone, Sudan, Syria, Tunisia, and Vietnam. The countries which have banned the internet are referred to as the “enemies of the Internet.”

2. Describe what the following image is about. (Provide two websites to support your findings)

Banned

This image depicts how youtube is banned in various countries by showing different cultures. It mainly shows China because of the Chinese flag and the Chinese man. China has banned Youtube due to a large amount of protesters from Tibet. The man in the image is the leader of the Tibetan Community.

The first website which shows this is http://www.boingboing.net/2008/03/16/tibet-china-blocks-y.html

This website shows a news report of the Chinese people blocking Youtube. The website shows the protest which was on the 16th of March. The reason that youtube was blocked was due to people posting videos of protests by the Tibetan people

The second website is almost the same but however is a bit more detailed. This site however talks about what kind of videos were posted. The videos posted contained montages of images, music and video.

3. Provide evidence of at least FIVE sources (Websites, newspapers, blogs, videos etc) that discuss reasons why these countries have taken such a drastic approach.

This is a short video which shows simple reasons as to why the Chinese Government has banned youtube. It only identifies the reasons however.

4. Discuss how you would feel if the Australian Government Banned the Internet. What privileges would you lose?

If the Australian Government had banned all access to the internet in Australia I would be at a complete loss. The average Australian relies on the Internet for almost everything. Almost every household contains a computer with internet access. If the Australian Constitution were to ban the Internet it would be good for both sides. However in order to find out if the action is fair one must look at both sides of the topic. As a personal opinion though I would be fairly disappointed as I would be at a big loss of my life. The internet has been known to contain harmful sites to computers. Some aspects include theft identity, credit card details and money stolen online, pornography and cyber bullying. However on a positive side though the internet is a great resource for information, excellent form of communication, keeps old friends back in touch, helps people on the other side of the globe, is a great opportunity to be more knowledgeable and a lot more.

If the internet was banned by the Australian Government I would not be able to talk to my friends which many people decide in the world is a complete waste of time. While many believe this, software such as Msn is helpful for people like me who’s team mates in debating have Msn. With Msn we can discuss topics for practice debates etc. For our group work as well it is very helpful. Another privilege which I would lose is an access to simple and easy information which makes it easier than going through a 10 000 page book. To be honest however I would be a fair bit dissapointed.
